Sometimes people ask me what kinda religion or believes do I have. And I am an atheist. Once they find that out they pursue to ask me how can I not believe in anything? How can one live such a life that, in their vision, is so senseless? Why don’t I believe in anything? And to whom I give credit for my existence and all the finds that I have and accomplish?
I often just smile, give a tap on the shoulder of the person and change the subject. But when they insist I’m forced to replay.
So, answering the questions.
1st How could a believe in something? With all the sadness, wars, poverty, diseases in the world how can a god exists and be regardless about that? How can any good be omniscient, be aware of all that, and even though not do ANYTHING about all those things. How can I believe in a god that says that loves us unconditionally but, at the same time, is willing to send us to eternal torment if we disobey one of his ridiculous laws witch, most of them, don’t even apply anymore to the modern world. And by that statement uses fear on a way to control and have respect from people.
2scnd Why, for my life to have any meaning or sense, should i believe on some bigger power who judges us based on what decisions we make if that same good give me the ability to make my on choices, or, as they call it, free will. I think that the sense of life lays on what we want to accomplish, what legacy we want to leave once we are gone and if we make an effort to make things better.
And putting together the last questions. I am the maker of my own destiny. I don’t need another person or entity to tell me what is morally wrong or right. This basic instincts we all have. And why should I have to proof the non-existence of some creature that you believe based only on a book, while there is no scientific prove of such thing. I may not have all answers about why and how we are here, but at least I have the courage to admit so, to admit that maybe there is no big significant reason for that, that maybe we are, indeed, here by accident and I am ok with it.
And note, this text regards all different types of religions that exist out there.
So tell me, Why is YOUR religion is more right then the other ones? Did you stopped to think that, if you were born in a different country, you could have a different religion? That the religions are determinate by witch part of the world and sometimes also by witch social context you were born in.
I guess sometimes is easier not to question things, I guess it’s easier to blame things that happen, things that don’t go right, on some bigger force instead of learn from that experiences and try to make things different next time.
